YAMAOKA, Michio is Professor and the dean of the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies (GSAPS) at Waseda University. He is also Professor and the vice-dean of the Faculty of International Research and Education at the same University. He is an external member of Research Institute of New Zealand Studies at Tohoku University of Community Service and Science and a visiting professor at Wuhan University in China. He serves the Japan Society for Economic Education (JSEE) as secretary, the International Institute of Asian Culture as councilor, the Shibusawa Ei'ichi Memorial Foundation as steering commissioner, the Japan Society for New Zealand Studies as president, the Japan Society for Intercultural Studies as director, and the Research Institute of Pacific Relations (IPR) of Waseda University as executive director. He received his Ph.D. in Social Science (International Relations) from Waseda University. His specialty is International Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, Economics Education, Institute of Pacific Relations, Institute of International Affairs, History of Asia-Pacific Cooperation, Studies on Economics Education, etc. After holding positions at the Research Institute for Social Science and the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at Waseda University as professor, he got the present position. His publications in English include the following: The Institute of Pacific Relations: Pioneer International Non-Governmental Organization in the Asia-Pacific Region (co-ed. Waseda University Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, 1999), Towards the Construction of a New Discipline: International Conference Proceeding on the Re-valuation of the Institute of Pacific Relations (IPR) (co-ed. Ronsosha, 2005); The Roles of New Zealand and Japan in the Asia-Pacific: From Standpoints of Security, and Economy and Cultural Exchange (co-ed. Ronsosha, 2009).
