Research:Wide-Scale Study Project:Asia Student Survey

Asia Student Survey (2008)

2008.03.30

Outline

GIARI exists to promulgate research on Asian regional integration and regional cooperation. It also aims to foster highly skilled human resources able to make significant contributions to such integration and cooperation. On the one hand, Asian regional integration has been developed as de-facto and economic activities and cultural exchanges have been fostered within the region. On the other hand, there are many factors such as different political systems and levels of economic development, diversity of religions and lifestyles and mutual distrust rooted in historical recognition that obstruct efforts to foster institutionalized Asian regional integration. Under these conditions, GIARI has strived to collect basic data to discuss Asian regional integration. The purpose of this survey is to clarify the scope and content of Asian regional integration through examining its image among Asian people and distinguishing common and different characteristics within the region. In 2008, GIARI carried out the Global Comparative Survey on Attitudes among Asian Students (or Asia Student Survey), a large-scale survey that comprised of individual interviews with approximately 400 university students from six Asian countries. The results helped to clarify the scope and content of Asian regional integration. The Asia-Vision Survey, launched in 2009, is a continuation of this project.
