Research Assistants (RAs) are a core human resource of this institute. They are competitive doctoral students of Waseda University who are studying Asian regional integration. Authorized by the general assembly of institute members, RAs are annually selected through the screening of documents and through personal interviews. With support and guidance from the institute, RAs participate in institute activities and develop their research ? in such forms as conference presentations, peer-reviewed journal publications and working papers ? toward acquiring their PhD degrees.

In the spring term of fiscal year 2009, nine Research Assistants (RAs) were hired by the institute. Four were selected out of twelve applicants through impartial screening procedures announced to students of Waseda University in April. Two Japanese RAs were selected from pre-enrollment screenings. The remaining three are competent government-financed foreign graduate students dealing with studies on Asian regional integration and cooperation. They were selected based on recommendations from institute members and enjoy support from the institute in such forms as partitioned spaces in the research room.
