2008年地域統合サマーインスティテュート
早稲田大学グローバルCOEプログラム「アジア地域統合のための世界的人材育成拠点」（GIARI）が夏期に開催する「サマーインスティテュート」は、各国から博士課程の学生を受け入れている。本プログラムは、学生がアジア地域統合に関する知識を深められるよう支援するとともに、彼らが研究ネットワークを広げる機会を与えている。第一回目となる2008年度サマーインスティテュートには、海外の大学から8名、早稲田大から15名、計23名の博士課程の学生が参加した。
サマーインスティテュートは、博士課程の学生が、政治、安全保障、経済、社会、文化、複合領域に限らず様々な視点から、アジア統合について理論的かつ実証的研究をおこなえるよう支援している。本プログラムは、参加学生が各々のアイデアを他の学生と共有し、自らの研究計画についてフィードバックを受け、建設的かつ批判的な意見を述べる能力を身に付けられるような支援環境を用意している。７日間にわたるプログラムにはフィールドトリップなどの実践的な活動も含まれている。
また、サマーインスティテュートの成果として学生から提出されたペーパーのうち、審議委員会によって優秀と判断されたものについては、「GIARIワーキングペーパー」として出版されるチャンスもある。
